Gerald Carr model | Deleted Cars 3 antagonist reimagined.

A little something that I’ve been working on with Yuinesko and Willian A. Presenting, Gerald Carr.

Concept by me.

As explained in a previous blog, last year, I began work on a screenplay for Cars 4 which I hoped to pitch to Pixar. It was based on the Community Service deleted scene, in which Lightning McQueen has a nightmare that his engine (his consciousness) was transplanted into a steamroller without his consent and he was forced to pave roads as one. That nightmare sequence also featured Mater having his own engine transplanted into McQueen’s body, and ultimately stealing his identity. The whole concept of bodyswappying and identity theft had enough to carry an entire movie.

For my screenplay, I envisioned an original antagonist. A vengeful rookie racecar whose promising career ended with a horrific crash indirectly caused by McQueen’s antics on the racetrack. This would have occurred during the 2005 Piston Cup. Driven insane by what happened, the former racer plots a scheme to kidnap McQueen, transplant McQueen’s engine into a steamroller, whilst transplanting his own engine into McQueen’s body and stealing his identity. And yes, I envisioned him as a blue Dodge Viper GTS-R. I figured doing so would give McQueen a challenge before the crash and make the unmasking all the more revealing – because McQueen has a V8 engine and the Dodge Viper is a V10.

Later that same year, a deleted scene for Cars 3 leaked. Revealing that the original concept for Cars 3 would have involved something similar. A basement dwelling car named Gerald Carr, who spent his life belittled by his abusive grandmother who compared him unfavourably to Lightning McQueen, which ultimately leads to Carr swapping bodies with McQueen and steaking his identity.

I’m still completely shocked by the similarities. I had originally named the villian of my screenplay Rev Vanguard. After the leak, I progressively started using the name Pixar had for their deleted villian. Such as in my song, Lightning In The Fast Lane, based on those deleted scenes.

My original antagonist utimately became a fan reimagining of a deleted Pixar character.

Willian A and I have plans for this model.
Stay tuned.
